The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will continue its Brown Bag Lunch series on Wednesday, January 8, with a presentation by Butte Historical Memorials. Jim McCarthy, Lindsay Mulcahy, and other board members will discuss the history of the “Great Dynamite Explosion of January 15, 1895. They will offer a brief explanation of how the group was formed, how they found their vision via artwork by Martha Cooney-Simonich and sculptor Jim Dolan.
Butte Historical Memorials (BHM) is a local organization dedicated to interpreting and honoring Butte’s rich history through memorials, sculptures and events. The group is raising funds to create a life-like memorial in honor of the forgotten victims of the horrific 1895 Butte Warehouse Explosion that included thirteen firemen, a policeman and forty-four rescuers and bystanders.
