Staff & Vision
The Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center was built in 2004. The detention center operates 365 days a year and employs 27 Detention Officers and five civilian staff. The detention center has an inmate capacity of 72. It is the mission of the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center to provide a safe and secure environment for the housing of inmates placed under our care in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
All inmates at the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center are classified using a specific system, which is basically a risk assessment. The classification of all inmates, security of other inmates and detention staff is greatly increased. We have a team of detention officers that research the inmate’s personal and criminal history. They also consider the inmate’s past and present behavior when in custody. Mental or physical disabilities are also reviewed when determining appropriate housing.
Upon completion of the classification process, inmates are placed in housing units that range from minimum to maximum-security levels.
Intake and Booking
The Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center’s intake / booking area is where all arrested adults are processed. Our staff uses the highest professional standards while maintaining the respect and dignity of those arrested. Arrested individuals are brought to our detention center and turned over to our booking officers. The intake process begins and arrestees are asked a series of questions by the booking officer.
The arrestees are then booked in, photographed, and fingerprinted. Once this process is competed, they are allowed to use the phone to contact a bondsmen, family member, or friends. If the arrestee cannot bond out or the offense is not bondable, they are transferred to the housing unit after classification. There is a $25 booking fee assessed on all arrestees.
