What We Do

Environmental health protects the public by preventing human injury and illness from our surroundings, including through the air, the land, the water, and our food.

Program components include education, inspections, permitting, licensing, training, data management, sampling, and enforcing rules and regulations concerning:

  • Air quality
  • Body art establishments
  • Day cares
  • Group homes
  • Mosquito and water quality districts
  • On-site wastewater systems (including all types of septic systems)
  • Public accommodations (including hotels, motels, and tourist homes)
  • Public pools and spas
  • Retail food establishments (including restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc.)
  • Sanitation in subdivisions
  • Solid waste
  • Temporary and mobile food service establishments
  • Trailer courts and campgrounds
