A partner holds the feet down. The fingers are locked behind the head or the hands are cupped over the ears. In the up position, the individual must touch both elbows to both knees and then return to a lying position at which the shoulder blades must touch the ground. this will constitute one sit-up. a repetition will not be counted if any of the following are observed during the course of the repetition: the hips bounce, the fingers move from their place, the elbows do not touch the knees, or the shoulder blades do not touch the ground. Push-Up Test (Score: total number in one minute): The subject assumes an up position with the feet together, the back straight, and the hands shoulder width apart. A partner places a fist on the ground under the chest of the subject. From the up position, the subject lowers himself/herself to the ground until his/her chest touches the partner's fist and then pushes back to the up position. The elbows must lock out in the up position. This will constitute one push-up. A repetition will not be counted if the protocol is violated. Sit and Reach (Score: best reach in one minute): The subject sits on the ground with his/her legs fully extended at right angles on a box. The heels are approximately eight inches apart. A yardstick is placed on the box with the 15-inch mark on the edge of the box and the one-inch mark extended toward the subject. The subject slowly reaches forward with both hands as far as possible without bending the knees and holds this position momentarily.
