  1. Brown Bag Lunch with Bill Farley about James A. Murray

    March 14, 2018, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM @ Archives Building

The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will continue its Brown Bag Lunch series on Wednesday, March 14, with a presentation by Bill Farley about James A. Murray (U.S. Senator, 1934-1961). Bill Farley is the author of the new biography, James A. Murray, Butte's Radical Irish Millionaire. Mr. Farley will discuss how he rescued Murray from obscurity, provide an overview of the book and its many characters, and, in recognition of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day celebration, delve into Murray's radical measures to support a free Ireland. Farley is a second great grand-nephew of James A. Murray. His interest in Murray’s life was piqued when he found an obituary for Murray among the estate papers of his father in 2012. The obituary credited Murray with a significant role in pioneering the West, mentioned his obsession with practical jokes, and highlighted his generosity with pioneers that fell on hard times.
