The Board of Health works to identify, assess, prevent, and ameliorate conditions of public health; to take measures to protect the public health; to appoint a health officer; and employ the necessary qualified staff to carry out the health programs of the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department.
The Board maintains a close working relationship with the State Department of Public Health and Human Services in the adoption of standards, development of competency needed to meet local health problems, use of expert consultative services available, and obtain state and federal funds to meet the public health needs of the community. The appointing authority for the Board is the Chief Executive with concurrence by the Council of Commissioners.
The Board has seven (7) members. Members must reside within the jurisdiction of Silver Bow County. Three (3) of the members must be health care professionals. Each member is a volunteer. Each member serves a three (3) year term, with terms staggered.
