Services & Responsibilities
The County Attorney is an elected position. The County Attorney's Office prosecutes criminal cases within the City and County of Butte-Silver Bow. It serves as legal adviser to the governing bodies of local, state, and school districts.
The activities of the office include
Prosecution of criminal cases in the city, justice, district, and juvenile courts;
Representing the city and county on all criminal and civil appeals to the Montana Supreme Court and federal courts;
Issuing legal opinions upon submission of an authoritative request;
Handling certain victim abuse complaints and family violence.
